The first Silver Star series, the Midwinter Championship of the Class, was
sailed in Havana in 1926 and thereafter until 1957. Although it is not known if
the Bacardi family were involved in these regattas the loss of International
sailing to Cuba meant that a new home needed to be found.
Some years later an approach was made to CRYC to allow the Bacardi family to
sponsor a regatta, the Star Bacardi Cup was started and has grown ever since.
In 2001, at a reception held for the sailors and visitors of the regatta, no
less than 10 World Champions and Olympic Medalists were in attendance, proving
the popularity both of the Star Class and of the Bacardi Cup in Miami.
2008 Bacardi Cup
To be sailed on Biscayne between March 2th and March 7th, 2008. To sail in
this even you will need to complete an Application for Invitation
Payment for the event is as follows, for applications received prior to
February 10th, 2008 the Registration Fee is $US100.00. For Applications after
this date the Registration Fee will be $US150.00 including a $US50.00 late fee.
The Application for Invitation must be completed Online, payment can
be made online through our PayPal Account, accepting VISA, MasterCard, American
Express and Discover Card, or you can mail in a check with a copy of the
Application Form. All mailed entries must be postmarked prior to February 10th,
2008 or the late fee will apply.
